Isolaion

Isolation is truly a selfish behavior which keeps our addictions active. There are many reasons why people choose to isolate. Guilt and shame are a few of the reasons behind not wanting to associate with other people while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The fear of what others wll think shames them into self imposed prisons. Living with dark secrets keeps them from enjoying the company of friends and acquaintances. Many in active addiction choose only to be around other addicted people. Like attracts like, so they choose to wallow together in negative lifestyles. Even while living in despair and knowing they are doing wrong they continue to choose their drug of choice which leads many into jails, institutions and death. Sadly, many know there is a way out but choose to believe it is only for others, not themselves.

One thing is guaranteed, when the road is going downhill due to active addiction, the bottoms get deeper and the pain grows in proportion to the self denial. Loss of self respect, family and friends, jobs and incomes, fail to interrupt theThe disease of addiction just continues to rob their lives of the obsession and compulsion which has taken over their lives. They become slaves to their negative behaviors.

Finding a way out of the pain only begins when they can admit powerlessness over the disease and seek relief through 12 step meetings or other therapeutic remedies.By listening to others who have found freedom from addiction they can begin the path towards freedom and fulfillment.
